Selling Our Excess Energy Helps Keep Your Rates Low!

At MP&W, we are fortunate to have the ability to generate more energy than our customers can use. We sell our excess power to wholesale purchasers—other utilities and power marketers—by way of the regional transmission grid. The low production costs of our coal-fired electric generating units help make our wholesale energy prices very competitive.

Historically, MP&W has sold energy through both short and long term arrangements. For example, in addition to selling energy on an hourly, daily, or weekly basis, we also have multi-year agreements to sell excess energy to two other Iowa municipalities.

Two marketers to help us with our wholesale power sales. They offer us expanded market knowledge and facilitate our transmission arrangements. Even with the load growth of local customers, MP&W anticipates having excess energy to sell for many years.
